Fifth Annual Planview CIO Executive Summit Brings Insight on IT Industry Challenges, Best Practices

AUSTIN, TX — July 12th, 2007 — Planview, the leading independent provider of portfolio management solutions, gathered more than 30 CIOs and senior IT executives from some of the world's largest organizations at the fifth annual Planview CIO Executive Summit, May 8, 2007, to explore, discuss and debate challenges and best practices facing technology executives today. Planview is dedicated to seeking feedback and insight from its customer base through events like the CIO Executive Summit, which continues to position the company as a thought leader and innovator in the portfolio management industry.

This year's Summit in Dallas centered on driving innovation through technology, focusing on issues such as organizational adoption and the transformation of IT into a service organization. The exclusivity and intimacy of the event combined with the caliber of speakers and attendees led to in-depth and productive discussions on key challenges and opportunities of IT in the enterprise.

"Organizations today are under immense pressure to drive innovation in a perpetually resource-challenged business climate," said Patrick Tickle, CMO of Planview. "Portfolio management is the ideal platform for IT to become a proactive, strategic and innovative partner with the business. As part of our commitment to helping organizations leverage portfolio management to drive innovation, Planview built the annual CIO Executive Summit to facilitate educational sessions and sharing of best practices among leading IT professionals."

The CIO Executive Summit featured several presentations from leading IT executives and experts across industries, including keynote sessions, roundtables and in-depth panel discussions with organizations such as Delphi Electronics, Flowserve and UGS. Scott McGlaun, CIO of Synovus, led one of the most popular sessions reflecting the theme, "The Journey to Becoming a Service Organization." McGlaun outlined the five key steps to driving fact-based decisions, and described how Synovus transformed into a service organization to better address the needs of the changing business.

Another principal issue identified at the 2007 CIO Executive Summit was the misalignment between the CEO and CIO's perceptions of IT performance. Laurie Orlov, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research, delivered a keynote address, "Elevating IT's Role in the Enterprise," which identified this gap as a formidable barrier in aligning IT with business strategies and expectations. Through the keynote presentation, Orlov recommended an IT organization identify its archetype (solid utility, trusted supplier or partner player) as a method to align perceptions, expectations, and enable successful change.

Prior to each CIO Executive Summit, Planview conducts a concurrent survey that provides technology executives the opportunity to outline their perspectives on hot topics in IT. This year's survey identified overwhelming backlogs of requests and projects as their top management challenge, followed closely by the shortage of time for strategic thinking and planning. Other concerns cited in the survey included the difficulty proving the value of IT, unknown/unrealistic expectations from business and inadequate budgets.

When asked to assess progress toward transforming IT into a service organization, 24 percent said they have begun the process; 50 percent said indicated they were focused on applications inventory and portfolios; five percent said they were doing full business service management. No respondent indicated that the transformation was not in their current plans. To access complete survey results, please visit www.planview.com/summitsurvey.
